Hello...who's calling?
One of the biggest questions (if not the biggest) that people have when it comes to hearing from God is this:
How can I tell if something I hear or see is from God or my own mind, or even worse...from the devil?
Is it even possible to know for sure that God is communicating with you?
I believe the answer is a definite "YES!" and here's why: Jesus said, "My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they follow me." (John 10:27).
That means that every true follower of Jesus has the ability to recognize His voice. You have that ability, too, if you're following and obeying Jesus.
But just because you have this ability doesn't mean you're good at it. Think about this: If your mom or someone else close to you calls you on the phone, even if they're a thousand miles away you still know it's them because you recognize their voice. You know the kind of words they use, their tone, if they have an accent or other distinguishing characteristics. You know it so well you can tell it's them even over a bad connection from a thousand miles away!
And how did you learn to recognize it? By spending enough time with them so that their voice is now very familiar to you!
It's pretty much the same with God. By spending time with Him talking things over and reading His book (the Bible), you'll learn what His voice sounds like, too. His voice can become just as familiar to you as any of your favorite people.
Over the next few weeks, I want to help you learn more about what His voice sounds like so it will be easier for you to recognize when He's talking to you.
For now, here's my first suggestion: take just 10 minutes a day and read the Bible. If you're new at this, start with the Gospel of John in the New Testament section. Before you start, take a minute and ask God to help you understand what He wants to tell you. If you really want to show Him you mean business...have a notebook and pen handy so you can write down (or journal) ideas, questions, or anything else you think is important to remember. You can also talk to Him about stuff that's going on in your life...He loves to listen!
Give it a try! And, as always, if you have any questions, dreams or other strange events going on that you'd like to share, drop me line at GodSpeaks2Me@comcast.net.
