Don't Give Up Yet
I'm sure your heart, like mine, goes out to the victims of hurricane Katrina. Our prayers and support are so important right now. The devastation and the suffering it has caused is hard to imagine for those of us who are not there and living through this difficult season.
Even so, we can appreciate to some degree what they're going through, because in this life we all go through hard times and difficult situations. When it gets really bad, we feel like we've been beat up and bruised, like nobody cares at all. Or we get so discouraged we just feel like giving up. Because of this, many people feel completely worthless, like there's no good reason why anyone should even bother to care about them.
If you know what I'm talking about...don't give up yet. Take a look at another characteristic of Jesus from Isaiah 42:3...
"A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;"
No matter how beat up and bruised you are, you're never too messed up for Jesus to stop caring about you. Look again at that beautiful word picture: "A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out."
Even if you've already given up...He hasn't, and He never will! His words to you will always bring hope and new life, new strength, fresh purpose.
In fact, you're worth so much to Him that He's been trying to get your attention and communicate with you for just about your whole life. And what He wants to say to you is nothing but Good News...
