The lights are on, but nobody's home

Did you know that October is "Crime Prevention" month? Yup, it's that time when they trot out 'ol "MacGruff the Crime Dog" to help us stay safe from all the bad guys out there.

Back in the day they would tell us to keep some lights on in the house, so when you go out somewhere the thieves would think somebody is home and not try to break in. It's easy to do and doesn't cost a whole lot either, and if keeps just one thief away it's definitely worth doing.

But something that's good for your house isn't so good when it comes to your life and your relationship to God...

Turning "the lights on" in your life might mean you're doing the "religious" things you think you're supposed to do...go to church, read the Bible, pray, etc., etc.

But here's the real question: Is anybody home?

Are you really meeting with God and getting to know Him? Or are you just going through the motions? Are the lights on just for show, or are you really there? A lot of us do this because we're afraid to actually encounter the awesome presence of the Lord.

So if you're gonna leave the lights on, stick around and invite Him to "break in." Instead of coming to steal, He has great things He wants to give to you.
