Wanted: Secret Treasure Hunters
Anyone who wants to hear what God is saying learns pretty quickly that He loves to speak in symbols, word pictures, riddles and other hard-to-understand methods.
The obvious question is why? If God is so powerful and intelligent, why in the world doesn't He use plain ordinary language to communicate with us?
Here's a clue from the Bible:
It is God's privilege to conceal things and the king's privilege to discover them. (Proverbs 25:2)
In other words, God has secrets...and He wants us to make some effort to find and understand them.
Think of it this way: Imagine you have a secret formula that anybody could follow and become successful in life. That would be pretty valuable, wouldn't it? Well, would you freely give that formula to anyone and everyone who wanted it? I doubt it. People would just take it for granted, and it would no longer have much value.
No, I think you'd probably limit it to those who really wanted it. So you'd make a little difficult to acquire, that way people who don't want it badly enough would probably just give up.
That's how God looks at it, too. His secrets are very valuable...but He's willing to share them if you want them enough. It just takes a humble heart, a willingness to learn, and some determination.
